    The Nigerian Government on 20th September 2017 proscribed the Group called Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group. The group has engaged in committing, participated in committing, instigated the commission, facilitated the commission of several acts of terrorism in Nigeria mostly Southeast. Militants of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on 22nd May 2022 killed a woman, her four children and six others in Anambra State. The Natives of Anambra State and the Southeast have not also been spared by the IPOB terrorists who have been wreaking havoc for a long time amid agitation for secession. IPOB has on an ongoing basis shut down all activities in the South Eastern Region forcing everyone to sit at home. In May 2022 the group beheaded a lawmaker representing Aguata 2 Constituency in Anambra State. Also, in June 2022 another former lawmaker representing Nnewi South Local Government was beheaded by the Group. Troops of 82 Division Nigerian Army (NA) conducting clearance operations along Anambra/Imo States border communities on 28 March 2022 dislodged a criminal hideout used by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate; Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Orsumoghu, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. Items recovered include a cache of arms, comprising 22 Pump Action rifles, 19 Dane guns and 6 machetes.

    On 5th July 2022, the Chairman of Nigeria Sanctions Committee (NSC) on the recommendation of the NSC designated INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA (IPOB) - NLIPB as a terrorist group and directs its addition to the Nigeria Sanctions List.
